If you follow my other blog The 8th Gem, you will have seen the latest shawl...as a WIP,
I finished it last night...but looking at the half made and the finished shawl I'm not sure.
Should i have left it predominantly blue and not added the red and yellow?
Really not sure
As a WIP HERE...more blue looking
or finished like this?
to unpick or not to unpick...that is the question?
Really pleased with the garden now...but the cats have already started to dig up our good work....ggggggrrrrrrr!
Tiny bit cooler today?..may be lol!
Have a fun filled weekend eveyone x
I think it looks pretty the way it is. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks x
DeleteI agree with Debi, I think it looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks x
DeleteI like the blue (tho I'm not usually a blue person), but looking at the "wide shot" of the shawl, the blue floral portion does give a bit of a "blue floral belt on a yellow stripey dress" feel. It's very pretty the way it is, but I do wonder if just one more row of blue in in the last few rows, and/or perhaps blue edging instead of red might not make the colors more even? Of course it does not have to be "even", because asymmetry is lovelier anyway, and if you're going to wear it with red, the extra red would work very well.
ReplyDeleteThanks...think I might need to make both hey? X
DeleteI was thinking the same thing as lollyknits: if there was a row of blue within the last few rows, the color palette would be more balanced. A contrast round in blue, worked like Step 8 in the tutorial below, would be an easy way to see if the blue row makes sense before you frog the beautiful border and some rows.

Hi going with a blue version as I re make to write the pattern...it needs some tweaks so a re make was on the cards...love the drinks mats. X
DeleteBeautiful work, but I prefer the freshness of the blue!
ReplyDeleteHi thought you might being a blue lover lol x
DeleteI love this and I love the colours you've used. I am instinctively more of a blue person than yellow or orange but this makes me want to pick up exactly the colours you've used to make a shot of sunshine to savour on even the greyest days. Now about to investigate The 8th Gem to see if you've posted instructions! I do hope so!! Happy hooking! And from my perspective, under no circumstances frog this - it's fabulous! Perfect to wear with denim or any kind of neutral colour. E x
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth ...thanks

No,no,no! The red and yellow sets it off! This is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks...well it will go with my red winter coat lol
DeleteX
Yes, it would be stunning over a red coat! My winter coat is cream-colored and I'm thinking about what sort of shawl I'd like to make for the upcoming winter. (It's upcoming up here in Pennsylvania USA). Something incredibly colorful for me too, I think.
DeleteI have a cream winter coat too thought it might go over that one too...will try it out and take a picture to see lol
DeleteGood luck with your shawl x
Hi Sue, Looooovve the shawl just the way it is!!!It's a one of a kind and it's beautiful!!!The red and yellow certainly makes it pop!!!Gorgeous!!!Have a great weekend!!!

Wow, that is stunning! A real eye-popper! Love it. Thanks for your kind words about my kitty passing away. Hugs, T
ReplyDeleteThanks Teresa...such a beauty I really am sorry, awful when your furry friends pass on big hugs to you all x
DeleteI tend to go with those voting in the blue direction. Either way, what a creative, magnificent design!
ReplyDeleteThanks......a blue version in the making lol x
DeleteHow about undoing the red bobble round (just the last one) and doing a few yellow-green-yellow-blue-yellow-blue combos (or something like that) and finish with a blue bobble round?
ReplyDeleteHi Rob....that is a good option if I wanted a bigger shawl, but to do the pattern I need to remake it and tweak the pattern so I will make the blue version as well...but a good idea.x
DeleteThis is a gorgeous shawl, the minute I saw it I wanted one too. those red/yellow rows would be great for me, the blue is more like an accent in the middle. If you start thinking about colours, what about green/purple/yellow ? thankx for the pictures !
ReplyDeleteHi...thanks, oh! Yes the colour variations are endless and it would look great in any colour combo...x
DeleteOI flor!

DeleteHi, did you ever post the pattern for this? I haven't found it. I notice also that the WIP from the other blog is totally gone now. Is it in a book? Thanks! (I found the pic from other site on Pinterest but they're all dead links now because it's gone from other site. Took me about 30 mins to find this one)
ReplyDeleteHi Laura S. yes it was a pattern as part of the subscription pattern club i did a year or so ago...not sold as an individual pattern sorry
