RUNNING BEAR RIPPLE CAL. PARTS 1-6

THE RELAXING GRANNY SHELL SCRAP YARN CAL 2018
Want to join me on a Scrap Cal, its taken me a little longer to get this year
CROCHET JOURNEY started, i'm afraid but eventually i came up with some thing i hope you will be able to relax into and want to make.

Hope some of you will join me and enjoy the journey of colour and the relaxing granny shell.

SCRAP YARN: odd balls of this and that, a perfect stash buster and I'm hoping not to need to buy any yarn for this one....my favourite sort of CAL

I'm using a selection of Chunky yarns, but you could kale it with DK if your have lots of left over balls and want it to be slightly finer weight.

COLOUR: so far i've used
PINK, ORANGE, RED, DARK BLUE, PALE BLUE, PURPLE,  LIME GREEN, CREAM, BEIGE, GREY AND BLACK CHUNKY YARN
all yarns are tweedy looking yarns, base colour but with little specks of colour within the yarn  or space dyed for lots of Texture

Marble, in several colours and Woodcraft Pebble the green and the black multi

BellaLana Dream in several colours

Aran [not weight but style], Wendy Festival, think this one has been discontinued but you might have some in your stash,

anything you have that will work for you, I know how good some of you are at colour combo's

HOOK: 5mm for the Chunky
4mm for DK
As a guide, but hook size can depend on your own tension.

DAISY GRANNY SQUARE PATTERN PART 1
US Terms.
Make 9 if using chunky,
you might need a few more if using DK as the squares will be smaller.

CLUSTERS: Half make the dc, hold last loop on hook and draw yarn through all stitches to complete the cluster st.

ALL CENTRES ARE THE SAME TO ROUND 3.

Start with a shade of grey col. finger wrap of 6 wraps

Round 2: cont. in grey mix, ch3 counts as first dc and ch1 sp, dc in next st ch1, repeat to end sl st to complete. [12 'spokes', ch1 between]
a little hard to see the 'spokes' in the chunky yarn, it fills the space

Round 3: Daisy petals in Cream col. 3dc clusters, [half make dc hold on hook, draw last pull through, through all stitches on hook], in each ch1 sp, ch2 between, repeat to end, sl st to complete. [12 clusters of 3dc, ch2 between]

Round 4: JOIN AS YOU GO ROUND: join in one corner, in a long row of squares, as you make them, using a slip stitch replacement for the second chain stitch in one corner.
Make 2 each in black/navy, dark blue/turquoise, pale blue, lime green and one for the centre of the run in a dark pinky colour.

Att. yarn in any space, ch2, counts as first dc, 2dc, ch3, 3dc, [corner], 3dc in next 2 sps, repeat for all 4 sides, sl st to complete, weave in ends.

JOIN THE 9 DAISY GRANNY SQUARES TOGETHER AT ONE POINT ONLY IN A LONG RUN

3dc, in next 3sp, 3dc, ch3, 3dc, in next point, repeat this pattern until yo have gone all the way around the 9 Daisy Granny's finish with sl st, to complete cut off and wave in ends.

SCRAP GRANNY RIPPLE CAL 2018
PART 3 CHANGE OF DIRECTION
TIP: Part 3 can pull up a little because of the change of direction so a 6mm hook for part 3 might help
Make 8 for each side and join as you go to attach to main body of blanket

Cont. in the same yarns or if you've run out make your own Chunky yarns by mixing 2 strands of dk together to make a similar yarn to the ones you have been using
for example, I ran out of the Lime green so i took 2 shades of lime green and worked them as one Chunky yarn you can hardly tell them apart.

UPDATE 19TH FEBRUARY FOR RIGHT AND LEFT END PANEL
PART 4: END PANELS
NOTE: the top pointed end of this half panel has tr, and not dc, to help extend the point for a better fit and length to the half end panels.
Joined in the same way join as you go on the 6th row using a sl st between gs. Note there is a right and left hand pattern for the half end patterns

PATTERN

Repeat for all 4 end panels

PART 5: BORDER

Decided to keep going with GS, [3dc in one stitch], for the border.

Its almost one GS in every space/stitch, but not quite....one granny shell in every space across the end panels works fine,
with 3dc, ch3, 3dc in all corners.

But across the end of the ripple centre panel and down the half end panels, 1gs, in every space was 'frilly'......

Starting at the corner 3dc, ch3, 3dc,
gs, in next 8sp,
gs, next sp [3gs already in there]
 1gs in next 4 sp,

 miss next join sp,
gs in next 2sp, miss next sp,
gs in next 2sp, miss the next sp,
gs in 2sp, miss one is done 5times,

 miss the next sp,
gs in the centre sp of the centre ripple panel,

repeat in reverse
miss the fist sp, gs in next 2sp, repeating 5 times,
 miss the join sp,
then gs in next 14sp,
3dc ch3 3dc in next corner.

across ends on panels there are 55gs
across end of ripple there are 51gs

ROUND 2+: Add as many rounds as you want or have scrap yarn for.
GS in every sp, gs, ch3, gs, in corners.

Managed to add 4 rounds of granny shells, green, blue /green purple it changes as it goes around, rose, and burnt orange.

still to add: Red, cream, black and cream again if i have enough

PART 6: FINISHING ROUND

The final round of granny shells is combined with ch5 picot
complete the first granny shel, ch5, picot and then complete the next granny shell, repeat to end gs, ch5 picot gs in corner spaces

How to do the ch5 picot

Final Chunky yarn Blanket measures approx. 60" [152.5cm] x 62' [157.5cm]
