SPIKE STITCH AND FRONT POST HEXAGON BLANKET/SCARF PATTERNS

FRONT POST VERSION

Front post creates a small flow in the centre






QUICK FRONT POST HEX PATTERN: 
US Terms, UK Terms in brackets
dk 4mm hook
Aran 5mm hook

PATTERN
Finger wrap of 5 wraps,



Round 1: ch2, counts as first dc, 12dc, into wrap, sl st, to complete. [12sts]


Round 2: ch2, counts as first dc, 2dc, into each sp, sl st to complete. [24sts]


Round 3: ch3 counts as first tr, 3tr, into each sp between pairs of dc, sl st to complete. [36sts]





Round 4: att. yarn in the first stitch of a set of 3tr, sc, into each tr, trfp, around the pairs of dc, of round 2, repeat to end and sl st to complete. [48sts]


trfp: To do a trfp stitch, yarn over the hook 2 times 

through the pair of stitches of round 2, from the front, yo pull back, 4 stitches on hook, 



yo through 2 yo through 2, yo through 2. 




Now continue to do the round with the dc in the top of the next 3tr sts, repeat to end [12 trfp, 36sc]

Round 5: Att. yarn in any front post st, ch4, [counts as first dc and ch2 corner sp], dc into same st, dc into next 7 sts, dc, ch2, dc, into next front post st, dc in next 7 sts, repeat end, sl st to complete [6 sides]

Round 6; dc, ch 2 dc, in corner sps, dc in 9 side sts, sl st to complete

Round 7: Repeat round 6 with the extra 2 side sts, sly t to complete
USE ROUND 7 TO JOIN AS YOU GO
or the hex can be made bigger with more rounds

SPIKE STITCH VARIATION
finger wrap of 5 wraps





Round 1: 12 sc [12dc] into circle (12sts)


Round 2: cluster of 2dc [2tr], into each st with ch1 between (12 clusters)





Round 3: 3tr [3dtr], into each ch1 sp, (36sts)


Round 4: sc [dc], in 2nd and 3rd sts, of group of 3sts, sc [dc] spike st into clusters of 
round 2. (36sts)




Round 5: Att. yarn in any spike st, ch4, [counts as first dc and ch2 corner sp], dc into same st, dc into next 5sts, dc, ch2, dc, into next front post st, dc in next 5sts, repeat end, sl st to complete [6 sides]

Round 6; dc, ch2 dc, in corner sps, dc in all side sts, sl st to complete

Round 7: Repeat round 6 with the extra 2 side sts, sly t to complete
USE ROUND 7 TO JOIN AS YOU GO
or the hex can be made bigger with more rounds
