a mini cal of just half and hour to an hour every other day a time to relax with your crochet, gather your thoughts and energise for the hectic Christmas festivities

All you need is any random dyed yarn, sock wool, dk or Aran weight about 200-400grams

Pattern part 1: Monday 19th December and will take approx. half an hour to and hour to complete, each part will follow every other day and take around the same amount of time to complete depending on your speed and experience

Yarn Required: Approx. 200grams of any space dyed yarn, from sock wool to Aran all giving a different size shawl....
Measurements: all measurements are unblocked and relaxed they will be bigger when blocked

A Sample selection of random/space dyed yarns but any brand would be OK for this design a shorter dye spacing will show the rows in different colours best but a longer spacing will look good by the end, giving a subtle colour change

ANGEL WINGS SHAWL CAL

This is Merry-Go-Round dk 4mm hook

Measures unblocked:11.5" 29cm by 6" 15.25cm

This next one is in James C Brett Marble Yarn 5mm hook

unblocked measures:11.5" 29cm by 6.5" 16.5cm

These next 2 are in the yarn i got from Pound Stretcher not as soft as some of the others but when soaked in conditioner for a few minutes and dried is perfectly acceptable yarn and a reasonable price too especially the larger ball of Aran

First one is labeled dk but is just about the same as the yarn in the picture below labeled Aran both made with a 5mm hook

measures 14" 35.5cm across 8.5" 21.5cm deep

this next one is in a super soft King Cole Drifter

4mm hook and measures:11.5" 29cm across 6.5" 16.5cm deep

you get interesting blocks of natural colours and feels lovely

This next one is an Indie yarn, hand dyed from Truly Hooked and a 4mm hook

Measures: 9.5" 24cm across and 5.5" 14cm deep

The Angel Wings Shawl could be made in sock wool too, sorry not managed a sample yet

All the samples in the pictures are of parts 1 and 2 and would take approximately just over the hour to make form someone with a reasonable speed. a little longer for a beginner

Any Random/space dyed yarn from sock wool to Aran, to make different size shawls

continue from part 1 in your chosen yarn and hook size

ROW 7: Turn, ch5 ,miss a st, sc [dc], into next next st, miss a st, repeat,

at ch2 point, sc [dc], ch5, sc [dc], into ch2 point, miss a st, ch5, sc [dc], into next st, ch5 miss a st, sc [dc], into next st, repeat to end

last sc [dc] goes into the sp between last 2sts. (27 loops)

ROW 8: Turn ch5, sc [dc], into first ch5 loop, repeat to end

Finish with a sl st into first ch st of the loop below ( 28 loops)

ROW 9: turn, sl st, into 3ch sts of the first loop (you are now in the correct place to start this row of ch5 loops)

repeat the ch5 loops and sc sts to end of row

finish with a sc [dc] in last ch5 loop (27 loops)

ROW 10: turn, 3sc [3dc], into first ch5 loop,

make a picot of ch3,

sl st into the sc [dc], to complete the picot,

making a tiny bobble

2sc [2dc], into the same ch5 loop, to complete the first picot detail,
repeat in every ch5 loop to end.

dtr [ttr], is yo 3 times pull through 4

ROW 11: turn, ch 4, 1dtr [ttr], into first st, ch2, 2dtr [2ttr], into second st from picot at the dip, making arches over the picot loops, repeat to end of row, finish with 2dtr [2ttr], in last st.

(28pairs of dtr [ttr] )

ROW 12: turn ch 2 as first dc [tr], 1dc in next st, 2dc [2tr] in next sp, 1dc [1tr], in next 2 sts, 2dc [2tr], in next sp, repeat to point, at point of shawl 1dc [1tr], ch2, 1dc [1tr] repeat the 1dc [1tr] in every st and 2dc [2tr], in ever sp, finish with 1dc [1tr] in last st and 1dc [1tr], in last sp between last 2 sts. ( 55sts each side)

ROW 13-15: turn at the end of every row, ch 2 as first dc [tr], on each row,

nice easy bit this 3 rows of dc [tr] one in every st. with 1dc [1tr], ch2, 1dc [1tr] at the point of the shawl.

ANGEL WINGS PATTERN: PART 4

TIP

Before we start part 4 a TIP: check your first row of 'v' stitches, don't do what I did and find on the 2nd return row about 6" in, I had only done half of the 'v' stitch and had to rip back 12" of work.

ANGEL WINGS SHAWL PART 4 PATTERN
By the end of part 3 I am getting to the end of a 100g ball of dk,
in one yarn but not in another so the dk's can be different as we know.

It is now a possible stop point and makes a 'Shawlette' and is wearable already
WITH THE ADDITION OF A BORDER...in a post to come next week

STITCHES: 'v' st...1dc [1tr] ch1 1dc [1tr], in every other base st.
ie: 1dc [1tr], ch1, 1dc [1tr]

ROW 16: turn, ch2, miss a st, 1dc [1tr], ch1, 1dc [1tr], in next st, miss a st, repeat 'v' st to point, in the point do a 'v' st with ch2 between the dc [tr],

miss a st repeat 'v' st, to end of row, finish with miss a st 1dc [1tr], in last sp.

This one is in Aran 250g ball, made with 5mm hook and measures
41" 104cm, from side to side
20" 51cm, top to point
I still have about 30-40g left.

ROW 22: Turn, ch 2, 1dc [1tr], in every st, and 1dc [1tr], in every ch sp, to point.

At the point do 1dc [1tr], ch2, 1dc [1tr], complete the row with 1dc [1tr], in every st,and 1dc [1tr] in each sp, finish with 1dc [1tr], in the last sp.

Row 23-27: turn, ch2, 1dc [1tr], in every st, to point, at the point 1dc [1tr], ch2, 1dc [1tr], 1dc [1tr] in every stitch of second side. finish with 1dc [1tr] in sp between last 2 sts.

Angel Wings, Shawl Mini CAL: PATTERN PART 7, 8 and 9

PARTS 7, 8 and 9: All the same stitch and this is an adjustable section of the Mini CAL.

You can do as many rows in this section of Granny Shells, as you want or yarn allows,

each of the first few rows takes approx. 15minutes.

If you do more than 6 rows it will start to take more than
15 minutes per row as it grows
AND YOU NEED TO LEAVE APPROX 50g FOR THE FINISH

FINISH ON AN UNEVEN NUMBER OF GRANNY SHELLS

A Granny shell: 3dc [3tr], grouped together in one st or sp.

Part 6, Row 27, finished with 97sts, each side.

PART 7 Angel Wings Shawl PATTERN:

Row 28: continue, turn, ch2, 2dc [2tr] in the same st, miss 2sts, granny shell of 3dc [3tr], in next st, miss 2 sts, granny shel in next st, repeat to point, giving 33 full granny shells,

ch2, miss the ch 2 point,

A granny shell in the fist st, miss 2 sts, granny shell in next st, repeat to end or row, to complete row with miss 2sts, 3dc [3tr], in last sp between last 2sts.

(33 granny shells each side)

Row 29: turn, ch2, granny shell in the next 32 sps, at the point do a granny shell, ch 2 granny shell in the ch2 sp, repeat a granny shell in the next 32 sps, finish the row with 1dc [1tr] in the last sp.

(33 granny shells each side with 1dc [1tr] at the start and finish of row)

ROWS 30: turn ch2, 2dc [2tr], in first sp, granny shell in every sp to point, 1granny shell ch2 1granny shell, in ch2 point, 1 granny shell in each sp to end finish 1granny shell in last sp.

(34 Granny shells each side)

NOTE: From here on you are adding a GS at the beginning and end of each row to give curved wing tips

ROW 31: turn, repeat row 30....that is a granny shell in the first st, and one in every sp to point at point do a gs, ch2, gs, then complete row with a gs in every sp, finish with a gs in last sp between last 2sts...

PART 8 AND 9PART 8:
ROW 32-35: Turn, Repeat ROW 30
PART 9:
ROWS 36-39:Turn, Repeat ROW 30

STOP if you are running out of yarn, if quantity is not a problem them continue until the shawl is the size you want it to be, but finish on an uneven number of granny shells AND......
leave at least 50g of yarn to do the final edging st.

OPTION 1:

NOTE: I'm not giving numbers of loops and picots for this finish, because you could all have a different number, having stopped at different places.

ROW 1: Turn, ch5, sc [dc], into next sp, ch5, sc into next sp, repeat, to point, at ch2 point, sc [dc], ch5, sc [dc], into ch2 point, repeat ch5, sc into next sp to end, last sc [dc] goes into the sp between last 2sts.

ROW 2: Turn ch5, sc [dc], into first ch5 loop, repeat to end, Finish with a sl st into first ch st of the loop below

ROW 3:turn, sl st, into 3ch sts of the first loop (you are now in the correct place to start this row of ch5 loops)

repeat the ch5 loops and sc sts to end of row, finish with a sc [dc] in last ch5 loop.

ROW 4:turn, 3sc [3dc], into first ch5 loop, make a picot of ch3, sl st into the sc [dc], to complete the picot, making a tiny bobble,2sc [2dc], into the same ch5 loop, to complete the first picot detail, repeat in every ch5 loop to end

NOTE: Again no numbers of points as you could all have a different number, depending on how many rows of granny shells you do, but you should all have an odd number of granny shells not and even number for this finish

OPTION 2:

ROW 1: Turn, sc [dc] in first sp, between the first 2 sts, 2tr [2dtr], ch3 2tr [2dtr], in next sp, between the granny shells, sc [dc] in next sp, between gs, complete to point, in ch2 point, 2tr [2dtr], ch3, 2tr, [2dtr], in same sp, sc [dc], in next sp, repeat to end fi is with a sc [dc], in last sp.

ROW 2: Turn, sc [dc], in next 2st, then 2sc [2dc], ch2, 2sc [2dc], in ch 3 point, sc [dc] in next 2 sts, sc [dc], into the sc [dc], in dip then repeat to end of row.
