I do not consider this pattern a beginners pattern, you need to be experienced in front and back post stitches and adding new post stitches into a curve.

IMPORTANT NOTES: SIDE ROWS ARE  MOSTLY WORKED INTO THE SIDE OF ALL THE DC OF THE BASE BAND ON THE SHAPED SIDE NOT THE STRAIGHT SIDE, YOU START AND FINISH WITH 3TR IN THE FIRST AND LAST ST. 

All front post stitches are trebles and done on even rows and all back post trebles are done on the odd rows, all other stitches between post stitches are double crochet.

BASE: 
Make a base for the Fan Crescent then add the side rows to the shaped side not the straight side. This will make the straight base start to curve.

PATTERN:
ROW 1: 3tr, in first st, 2dc, in the side of each dc, 3tr in last st. Turn.

ROW 2: ch3, counts as first tr, 2tr in the first st, 1dc, in next 4 sts, frptr, into the first ridge of the base dc, 1dc in next 4 sts, 

repeat the front post in the space between the sets of 4dc, at a ridge in the base crescent, 1dc in next 4 sts, to end, finish with 1dc in last 2sts, 3tr, in last sp. TURN. [42 post st, ridges]

ROW 3: ch3 counts as first tr, 2tr in first st, 1dc in next 8sts, bptr, into the fptr, 1dc in next 4sts, repeat bptr and 4dc, to last ptr, dc in last 6sts,  3tr, in last sp. Turn.

ROW 4: ch3, counts as first tr, 2tr in first st, dc in next 4 sts, fptr into 3tr of row2, dc, into next 4sts, fptr into next post st, repeat to end. Turn

5 - 13: repeat rows 3 and 4, adding in a new front post stitch at the beginning and end of front post rows.

BIGGER VERSION: You could add more rows before adding the triangle edging but it will take more yarn than the 200g suggested.

TRIANGLE EDGING. Made in every 6 sts. post st, to post st, continuous.
sc in first 6 st, turn miss first st sc in next 5 sts, turn miss first st sc in next 4 sts, turn, miss first st, sc in next 3 sts, turn, miss first st sc in next 2 sts, turn, miss first st sc in last st, ch2, sc in each st to bottom of triangle, [6sts], sc into top of post st and repeat to end.

Crescent Moon Shawl...BLOCK STITCH

So sorry, i promised the Fan Crescent Moon Shawl today but I have misplaced my notes, Im sure we have a ghost, things do go missing often, only to reappear a few days later....bit mad and inconvenient sometimes too. The Fan version will be added Wednesday.

So todays pattern will be the BLOCK STITCH VERSION...

CRESCENT MOON SHAWL BLOCK STITCH PATTERN

IMPORTANT NOTE.
All the photographs show my original make of this block stitch version, I only did an increase in the first ch3 loop and don't like the shape. 
The crescent isn't quite right, so the pattern says to do an increase in first 2 ch3 loops....im sure the crescent shape will be better.

NOTES: First row is worked into the side of the dc of base pattern. 

increase at the beginning and end of each even row. 

PATTERN

Make the base crescent pattern, pull yarn through the last st and hold ready to do the 2nd row of the block st.

ROW 1: Att. BLACK AND WHITE YARN to the first st, ch3, sc into the next side dc, ch3, sc into next and every side dc to end, finish with ch3, sc in last st, pull yarn through st, and hold,

ROW 2: Ch2, counts as first dc, 2dc into first ch3 loop ch1, 3dc into same ch3 loop, 3dc, ch1, 3dc, in 2nd ch3 loop, 1 set of 3dc in next ch3 loop, repeat to last 2 ch3 loops 3dc, ch1, 3dc in last 2 ch3 loops, 3dc, pull yarn through st, and hold.

ROW 3: Pull up BLACK AND WHITE YARN, sc in first st, ch3, sc in ch1 sp, ch3, sc in next sp between 3dc, repeat to end finish with, ch3, sc, in ch1 sp, ch3, in last 4 blocks, sc in last st. Pull yarn through st, and hold.

ROW 4: pull up coloured yarn, ch2 counts as first dc, 2dc, ch1, 3dc in first ch3 loop, 3dc, ch1 3dc, in next ch3 loop, 3dc in each ch3 loop to last 2 ch3 loops, finish with 3dc, ch1, 3dc in last 2 ch3 loops. pull yarn through st and hold

ROWS 5-17: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Finish with row 3, black and white ch3 loops. cont with black and white yarn for edging st.

NOTES: To make it bigger...You can do more rows of the ch3 loops and blocks of 3dc, if you want it to be bigger before adding the Tooth stitch edging

ORIGINAL MAKE ABOVE...only increased in first ch3 loop but the pattern says to increase in the first 2 ch3 loops this will improve the crescent shape 

ROW 18: BLACK AND WHITE YARN, small triangles i'm calling Tooth Stitch, work one Tooth stitch in each ch3 loop

sc, hdc, dc, tr in first ch3 loop, ch2, 2sc, into the side of the tr post, sc in the ch3 loop, sc. into next ch3 loop and repeat in every ch3 loop to end.

Tomorrows pattern will be the Blue Fan Version of the Crescent Moon Shawl

This pattern has been inspired by the crescent Moon and what it means....

The women of this world seem to have a very special connection to the moon, and the crescent moon
 is 
a beautiful way to express her dark and mysterious side. The moon is a symbol of regeneration, 
and without the female of the species bringing new life into the world, there would be no life.

FOR EVERYONE with a new beginning or new life in their family.

PATTERN

Please note that you start with a right angle triangle made from the top point to the wide base, then 
a straight length, then a right angle triangle from the wide bit to the finishing point.

INCREASE is ONLY ON ONE SIDE, and the other side is kept straight making a right angled triangle.

Sl st, on hook, ch3

ROW 1: dc, in first ch, [2dc]

ROW 2: ch2, turn miss the first st, dc into sp. [2dc]

ROW 3: ch2, turn, dc in first st, dc in next st, dc in sp between last 2 sts. [3dc]

ROW 4: ch2, turn, miss the first st, dc in next st, dc, in sp between last 2 sts. [3dc]

ROW 5: ch2, turn, dc in first st, dc in all sts, dc in sp between last 2 sts. [4dc]

ROW 6: ch2 turn, miss first st, dc in all stitches, dc in sp, between last 2 sts. [4dc]

NOTES: by row 6 you can easily see which is the straight side if you have difficulty then add a st, 
marker to the increase side so you always know which row starts with a stitch into first st.

ROWS 7-33: REPEAT ROWS 5 AND 6 ALTERNATELY

Ending with 2 rows of each increase...

2,2 3,3 4,4 5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8...... and so on, until you have 18sts in last 2 rows. [18dc]

ROWS 33-51: mark row 33, then work each row STRAIGHT, 
ONE STITCH IN EACH STITCH with NO INCREASE, FOR 19 ROWS.
the ch2 counts as the first st  [18sts]

IMPORTANT NOTE: This odd number of rows will ensure you can add almost any stitch to the

 side bands. Some stitches can be done in each section, so it doesn't matter how many sections 

you have, but some stitches require 2 sections e.g. a shell stitch you would do the shell in the
first section, and the anchor stitch in the second section, then repeat so at the end you would
 end the row with an anchor section if the number of sections is even, with the extra section 
[odd number of sections] you will have enough sections to finish with a shell st not the anchor....
hope that helps with designing the side rows?

ROWS 52-83: decrease ONLY on the same side as the increase and do 2 rows of each count, 17,17,16,16,15,15,14,14...as so on until only 2 stitches remain.
Pull yarn through and hold ready for the first row of the next stage.

HOW TO DECREASE

ch1, hold on hook, half make a dc pull yarn through both sts, now counts as 

one st. 

JOINING THE CAL?

the base crescent can be made in a couple of hours so if you are quick and want to make more 

than one ready for Monday and stage 2, feel free, I'm sure there will be lots of variations to 

have fun with.

SO... 4 Days to make one or more base crescent ready to add the chosen side bands. I will share

a few tips on adding your chosen stitches on Monday.

SOME YARN OPTIONS: 

Any yarn could be used but my suggestion is to use dk and 4mm hook

A space dyed yarn is a good idea, if you want to use lots of colours, so that you can concentrate 

on the increasing and decreasing.

Different coloured yarns can be used in the second stage side bands 

On Monday i will add my options for the side rows, there are many many options to complete 

this Crescent Moon wrap. Hope some of you will join the fun and try your own stitches so that we can make a few crochet community Wraps.

2nd Crecsent Moon Shawl completed, this is more of a scarf than a wrap really as i only had one ball of the bright yarn.
