How to make the simple Buttons and the Gem Necklace
Bead 'n' Bezel

Alpaca beads are so soft...

add to projects as decoration or as actual working buttons...the middle button is through a button hole in the mini bag above

Make several and sew together in a straight line for a bracelet or with a slight curve for a necklace.

HAPPY HOOKING

Make a set of Gems in the colour of your choice and join together in a variety of different designs.

In a triangle of 3, in a long row long enough to make a complete necklace, or join 7, 8 or 9 Gems together for a necklace

or 5 together as a bracelet or make a statement ring with a singe Gem

 This necklace is made in Merino and Alpaca

CRESCENT MOON WRAP...new beginnings/new life

Hope you are enjoying the Crescent Moon Wrap? I see some one has already got 3 base crescent done and they are sharing pictures on the Facebook group Sue Pinner Granny Squares, click link to join and share your makes.

I have 2 completed with different side stitches, a 3rd part made for someone close, and a 4th that is considerable bigger, if you want to have a go at this one too....

THE NEW BIGGER CRESCENT

If you want to have a go, its the same pattern but...

Increase to 25sts [Approx 50cm] 46ROWS

Work straight until the whole piece measures approx. 100cm, 46ROWS,and then decrease to end. [Approx. 1.5m]

CAROUSEL

The Carousel has taken so much of my time and effort lately.....the finishing edge stitch to come on November 15th and then some time to play with the secret blanket

TIME OUT

This last week I took a few days 'me time', bit of volunteering, clean the house, catch up with the washing and hooky time, revamping the pattern on page 116 of Granny Squares it's the cover blanket motif.....I've used my favourite finger wrap/sc start to the pattern and I've turned it into a hex, when you start with the magic number 12 thats extremely easy to do.

YARNS

Over the last couple of years i have been collecting together some beautiful yarns, alpaca, cotton, wool and some acrylics too, most of which i haven't had time to use.

INSPIRATION

For weeks now a fabulous picture of a Missoni Jacket and scarf creation, [I adore the colours], it has been my screen saver reminding me that soon I would have time to play...this week i took a few days and got lost in a new blanket for my lounge, dark grey being the dominate colour 

the original Square on page 116 in Granny Squares, but with my favourite finger wrap/sc start 

I've always loved mixing yarns together as one to make more interesting yarns, but there are so many multi thread yarns today you can often find exactly what you want in the market place..so some i mixed and some i had.

YARNS USED:

 Ormo, very fine, looks so like cotton threads

100% Acrylic

Ornaghi Wonderful, 

65% Acrylic, 25% new wool, 10% mohair mix

63% Wool, 37% Acrylic

70% Acrylic, 30% Wool

All mixed and blended together to create the look and shade

 blending can create so many more softer/darker/lighter/subtler shades......

and my old college tutor said my colour choices was diabolical!....I can do subtle too although I struggle to leave any colour out lol  

 I wanted the motif to reflect the Flower Light I made years ago, with tweaks to yarn weight etc. I think the blanket pattern from my work works a treat 

  

Every hex is a different shade because of the space dyed yarn used as a background yarn , giving a lovely shaded blanket.

FINAL COLOUR CHOICE: Adore the Aspen colour....

 But thinking Cotton rather than Wool/Acrylic for this Belinda Flower Wrap

 Love the colour, the Aspen in particular is a real favourite, I have a dress in exactly this colour, but thinking a cotton version as it's a summer dress. 

So I'm going to finish this one as a cowl to wear in the Autumn/Winter and re make it in cottons. The lilac one above is in cotton, and has more stitch definition too and would be more wearable with my Summer linen dress in the same colour. Just hope I can find a colour that is the same as Aspen in cotton?

I will also drop the dark grey and replace it with a silver grey like this one in the middle of the picture

Excuse the dressing gown! Having a little try out to see if another 5 motifs would make it big enough for a cowl so at least it will be finished and wearable, until i can re-make it in cotton

FINAL COLOUR CHOICE

 I did experiment a little as I was making this project, with the shade of pink, the grey and the aspen with Aqua....decided that the silver grey, clover, zing and aspen were the colours I liked best

 We had a great day at The Craft Room Shrewsbury yesterday, lots of natter though, not so much knitting and crochet. It's going to be a wonderful go to place for all sorts of craft materials and a great place to drop in and have a chat with like minded friends.I know we should have left about 4 but we were chatting so much they left us and eventually kicked us out at 5! I have claimed a chair for next time I drop in.....
