Slight change of plan for today's post, after seeing the Square everyone voted for doing the Square today and the borders on Monday 20th April 2020

CORONACAL SQUARE PATTERN

US TERMS

5mm hook for Aran

4mm hook for DK

Inspired by my studio wallpaper, this square 'tile' is another giant just like the eye motif, measuring approx 12" 

So a small blanket can be made from 4, 6 or 9 squares or a larger blanket with 12 or 36 square would be a huge 6'+ square.

I've made mine in several shades of blues, from aqua to dark blue. I am running out of left overs for these colours so cant be exact with shades used its what i can find and all the squares will be slightly different although as close as i can make them.

THE SQUARE PATTERN

is the same up to adding the spears then it changes slightly

Add 4 spears every 3rd section in each corner.

SQUARE PATTERN

Finger wrap of 8 wraps OR ch4 sl st into a circle. Please try to master the finger wrap it makes such a different to the start of your motifs

ROUND 1: 12sc into circle, sl st to complete. [12sc]

ROUND 2: 2dc, into each st, sl st to complete.[24dc]

ROUND 3: 3dc in the sp, between each pair of dc of previous round. [36dc]

ROUND 4: sc in every st, sl st to complete. [36sc]

ROUND 5: Hdc in first 2 sts, 2hdc in next st, repeat, sl st to complete. [48hdc]

ROUND 6: [double 'v' st] att. yarn in 2nd hdc, of round before, 2tr, ch3, 2tr, in same st, miss 3sts, repeat in next second hdc, miss 3 sts, repeat to end, sl st to complete. [12 Double 'v' sts]

ROUND 7: att, yarn in any sp, between the double 'v' st, 3dc, ch3, 3dc [shell st], in next ch3 sp, sc, in next sp between, repeat, sl st to complete. 
[12 shell sts]

ROUND 8 Add 4 spears on every 3rd space.

NOTE: Use the second ch st on each point to join the diamond/spear to the dip and points of the shells of round 7.

MAKING SPEARS 

A finger wrap of 8 wraps

ROUND 1: 12sc, into the circle

ROUND 2: Change col. Starting in any st but you are doing the outer point first, ch6, counts as first tr and ch3 point, 1tr into the same st, 

1dc, into the next 3sts, dc, ch3, dc, into the next st, (side point and where you join using the 2nd ch st, replacing it with a sl st to join the a shell point), 

1dc into the next st, 1dc, ch3 1dc, into the next st (bottom point, join as you go replacing the second ch st, with a sl st tp join to the dip) 

1dc in the next st, 1dc, ch3, 1dc, into next st, (second side point, join as you go replacing the 2nd ch for a sl st to join the the point of a shell st), 

complete with 1dc, in next 3sts, sl st into 3rd ch to complete 

CONT. WITH SQUARE AFTER ATTACHING 4 SPEARS.

ROUND 9: Att yarn in any spear point 5sc in same ch3 sp, sc in next 5sts [side of the first spear], ch3, tr into the first dip, ch3, sc into next point of round 7, ch3, tr into  next dip, ch3, sc into next 5 sts [side of spear] repeat for all 4 sides. sl st to complete. Cont.
[15sc around 4 spears, 4 x ch3 loops at each side]

ROUND 10: Cont. with same colour, ch2 [counts as first dc], dc in next 2sts, 
dc, ch2, dc, in next st, [first corner], dc in next 7sts, you should now be at the ch3, loop spaces, 3dc in next 4 x ch3 sps, dc in next 7sts, dc, ch2, dc, [second corner] dc in next 7 sts, repeat for all sides, and all corners, sl st to complete.[28dc each side]

ROUND 11: Att. yarn in any corner, ch4 counts as first dc and ch2 sp, dc in same sp, dc in next 28sts, dc, ch2 dc in next corner sp, repeat for each side, sl st to complete. [30dc each side]

ROUND 12: Att, yarn in a corner sp, sc, ch2 sc, in same sp, sc in next 30 sts, sc ch2 sc in next corner sp, repeat for each side, sl st to complete, CONT. 

[32sc each side]

ROUND 13: Cont. in same colour, WORKING ONLY IN THE BACK OF THE ST AND THIS WILL BE THE JOIN AS YOU GO ROUND, 

dc in each stitch with ch2 at each corner, sl st to complete.

JOIN AS YOU GO...Using a sl st after each dc to join to the matching st of the first completed square

WORKSHOP anyone?

Friday evening is always a welcome cheese and wine evening with a little hooky playtime. I've had a request for a mosaic design and some basic instruction on how to do Mosaic stitch, so this will be the playtime on the Friday evening.

Bakewell Blue Blanket

A simple motif using the 12, 24, 36, rule, but using a cluster stitch for each round of the circle. The motif is made into a square on round 6.

 I have used chunky space dyed yarn in 4 colours to make a 6"square. 

By using a random dyed yarn you will get several different shades of the same motif and will need to arrange them with the lighter ones in the centre and the darker ones to the outside area of each block of 36 motifs.

Yarn: BellaLana, Dream in 3 shades, cream mix, grey mix and a pale blue/green mix and a dark blue, for the final round in Marble
OR: Use the beautiful shades of Marble chunky as an alternative 

5mm hook
Motif: approx 6" square

Make: 144 X 6" Motifs for a 6' square blanket.

CLUSTERS: Half make the dc, hold last loop on hook and draw yarn through all stitches to complete the cluster st.

Pattern: US Terms.

grey mix, finger wrap of 6 wraps
Round 1: cont. in grey mix, 12sc into circle, sl st to complete. [12sc]

Round 2: cont. in grey mix, ch3 counts as first dc and ch1 sp, dc in next st ch1, repeat to end sl st to complete. [12 'spokes', ch1 between]

a little hard to see the 'spokes' in the chunky yarn, it fills the space 

Round 3: cream mix, 3dc clusters, [half make dc hold on hook, draw last pull through, through all stitches on hook], in each ch1 sp, ch2 between, repeat to end, sl st to complete. [12 clusters of 3dc, ch2 between]

Round 4: grey mix, try to keep the lighter grey to gather and the darker grey together, 4dc clusters, in each ch2, sp, ch3 between, repeat to end, sl st to complete. [12clusters of 4dc, ch3 between]

Round 5: pale blue/green mix, 2 x 3dc clusters, with ch2 between in each ch3 sp, ch1 between each pair of clusters. sl st to complete. [12 pairs of 3dc clusters, ch2 between clusters and ch1 between each pair]

Round 6: dark blue, att yarn between a pair of clusters, 2tr, ch3 2tr, corner, 2dc in next sp, 2hdc in next 3sp, 2dc in next sp, repeat for 3 more sides sl st to complete. [14sts each side, ch3 corners]

JOIN AS YOU GO: Using a sl st into the spaces and replace the the middle ch st in each corner to join the squares together. OR you could make up all the squares and then join with  ch3 loops ch5 at corners. OR you can use your favourite joining method...there are lots to pick from. 


TO COMPLETE: Not completed the blanket yet but the plan is to add a few rounds of close 'V' sts. to match a 'V' st, cushion 

Using the random dyed yarn  you will get several shaded square from light to dark. 

Arranging them in a pleasing design before joining them together.

Still trying to make a final decision on yarns and motif style for the new kitchen blanket...I've tried so many options, definitley 

SHADES OF OATMEAL, BLUE AND WHITE

Aran tweedy alpaca, wool mixes in beige/oatmeal shades

Cream life wool mix 

and a beautiful new random dyed yarn i bought the other day is super soft and shades of the palest blues and aquas....

But what motif to use? I love this stage of the game, the playtime, the experiment stages, something simple, something detailed?

 Exploring the best combinations of yarn and pattern

using tiles for inspiration maybe?

not the right colours, yet to be tried in the chosen colours

but lots of Blue, white, beige and charcoal experiment happening...

 'v' stitch I love lots, a simple granny square got to be in there some where and 

of course a few flowers...

 A possible off shoot: maybe a bag or wrap with flower pins? 

 of course there's got to be a cat or two helping...

 the triangle wrap pattern work well too...a blanket this time?

with a few Bobble Flowers thrown in too?

I want to make them all for the new look kitchen that arrived yesterday and we hope will be installed over the new week...watch this space

Got my eye on a new Blue and white dinner services too. Something with blue edging, i've seen one in Sainsbury and one in Dunelm and I'm sure there are dozens more out there i will love and not be able to make a decision about !
